Challenge
Lusitania Seguros did all its planning and budget control in Excel spreadsheets which, in a company of this size, raised the following problems:
- Around 80% of the effort went into processing data, leaving only 20% for analyzing it.
- Difficulty creating different budget scenarios.
- Managing versions of Excel files.
- Information centralized in the Planning and Management Control department, so whenever a business area needed to analyze variances it had to wait to receive the processed information.
- Risk of losing information if a file was damaged.
- Risk of security breaches.
- To reduce the effort spent processing data and free up time to analyze results, indicators and trends, the insurer chose to automate the process and put all the know-how into user-friendly software. The aim was to give users more autonomy and interactivity, and to control inputs, versions and access more efficiently.
Solution
Gstep implemented Oracle Exalytics, the industry's first in-memory BI (Business Intelligence) machine integrating hardware and software, delivering high responsiveness, lower IT infrastructure cost and complexity, and higher productivity and performance. The project also improved the speed and usability of Lusitania's decision-support tool.
Result
- Around 30 users.
- Processing of 100 Excel files, each with several versions.
- Time savings of at least 50%.
